I received an official looking letter that states that I am one of a few remaining Singaporeans who stands a chance to win $200,000 in a Sweepstake grand prize draw. It says that I will be receiving some important documents in the next few days which I should return by a certain deadline to qualify for the draw.
Anyone received anything similar. It seem's to come from Reader's Digest though there is no official logo and stuff. Is it a scam?
Hi FF,
ReplyDeleteReader's Digest (RD) has been trying this for the last XX years ! I recall my late grandfather excitedly coming to me and saying he had won a "key" to a brand new car in an RD Sweepstake, and this was like 10 years ago. After careful reading and asking around, I knew it to be an elaborate marketing ploy.
It may not be a scam per se, but it is akin to one in the sense that they are misleading you. Why do I say that?
Because if you check out the forums (e.g. CNA), a lot of people got the letter (myself included !) which says they are only one of the few in their area to get this letter. Smell a rat? I dumped it in the nearest rubbish bin in double quick time.....
Regards,
Musicwhiz
Yeah. I dumped my letter into the bin too =)
ReplyDeleteNo point wasting my time on this kind of stuff
I also got this and apparently thru UOB card. Incidentally, Readers Digest just filed for bankruptcy in the US.
ReplyDeleteOh wow. Reader's Digets is bankrupt? Then how are they going to fund this $200,000 lucky draw? =)
ReplyDeleteInterestingly, I just received the letter you guys mentioned a few weeks ago. I thought they shld be bankrupt by now already?!?!
ReplyDeleteHaha, anyway, the letter headed for the trash bag as well.
I just received this too. Weird thing is i've never purchase any reader's digest. I wonder how they got my address...
ReplyDeleteIt is a scam. Google it and you will know.
ReplyDeleteI just threw my invite letter away.
