Dividends from Kingboard and China Aviation Oil
With the $315.00 that I collected from Capitaland earlier in the month, the total amount of dividends for May 2010 is $517.02.
I have also been using the coin deposit machine by POSB to deposit all my loose change into a POSBKids Account for my child's university education fund. Thus far, I have accumulated slightly over $2500 including money from red packets received during Chinese New Year.
Considering that it is still a long way more, I think I still have time to save up more in the future. But at the current rate I am going, the education fund will probably only hit $50K plus when it needs to be utilised.
Dividends from Capitaland
A total of $315.00
Red hot property market
Singapore's red hot private property market is still not showing much signs of slowing down. In fact, The Interlace by Capitaland saw 144 units sold at a median price of S$1,067 psf. Capitaland has also invested heavily in China's property market. I hope to see more dividends from Capitaland in the future.
To think about it, if one does not have enough capital to invest in a rental property, a good proxy would be to invest in property counters or REITs.
Waiting for other dividends....
I am still waiting to receive dividends from other counters like Suntec REIT, Kingboard, Innotek, etc.
Will post the full amount I have collected once I receive them =)
$402.75 in Dividends and Passive Income for Mar 2010
I wrote sometime earlier in the month that I have gotten my 3rd cheque from Google's Adsense program. Kindly refer to that posting there about my earnings from adsense. I will get my next payout in April or May.
Dividends
1. Pac Andes = $222.00
"Passive" Income
1. Adsense = $180.75
Total in Dividends and Passive Income = $402.75
On the job front, I will most probably secure a job by next month. (Fingers are all crossed!)
I have also started giving tuition which should roughly add another $1000 to my earnings each month.
Dividends and Passive Income for Feb 2010
While it is not the end of February yet, I think it is possible for me to record down all my dividends and passive income for the month.
Dividends (from Ascott REIT and Suntec REIT) = $455.58
Trading Income = $39.31
Interest from Savings Account = $7.35
Total dividends and passive income for Feb 2010 = $502.24
I also expect to increase my earned income as I have started taking on some tutoring assignments. This is not so much for the money but more for the experience of teaching students in a one-to-one context and basically because I like to teach. I have enjoyed it thus far.
On the job front, I am still on the look out for jobs that might interest me. Still waiting for the replies from several job applications and hopefully I get a reply by March 2010.
$25.68 in Dividends for Jan 2010
Anyway, I will be expecting dividends from Pacific Andes and Ascott REITs pretty soon too.
Pacific Andes is giving 0.6 cents per share while Ascott REITs is giving a DPU of 3.77 cents. That should add up to a few hundred dollars in the month of February which should come in handy somehow.

Dividends for November 09
Total from First REIT = $323
Total from Suntec REIT = $29.21
Sort of regretted selling away some of my Suntec REITs as I would have received a much larger dividend. Oh well, I guess we are always wiser with hindsight.
Total dividends for November 2009 = $352.21
It certainly cannot compare with the dividends that I received for Feb 09, May 09 and August 09 but it beats getting nothing at all.

I have 17,000 units of it in my portfolio.
This means that I will be getting a windfall of $323.00 sometime in November.
PWE
Nope, PWE stands for Penn West Energy Trust. Just typing PWE into Google gives me the stock price of this canroy which I own. It is listed on the New York Stock Exchange with the ticker symbol as PWE.
In fact, I have been receiving cheques from PWE every month for the past few months. Based on my estimate, the distribution yield by this canroy is slightly below 10%. It does make a very good income source I must say.
It also just declared its distribution for the month of September:
Penn West Energy Trust ("Penn West") (TSX:PWT.UN) (NYSE:PWE) confirms that its September 2009 cash distribution will be CDN$0.15 per trust unit payable on October 15, 2009 to unitholders of record on September 30, 2009. The ex-distribution date is September 28, 2009.
The CDN$0.15 per unit is equivalent to approximately US$0.14 per unit (before deduction of any applicable Canadian withholding tax) using currency exchange of one Canadian dollar equals US$0.90. Registered unitholders with U.S. addresses will receive their distributions directly from Penn West's transfer agent, and will be paid in U.S. currency using the exchange rate in effect on the record date. Non-registered U.S. unitholders will receive their distributions through their brokers.
I bought into this stock while it was over US$10. Today it trades at close to $15. That is close to a 50 per cent gain on top of the dividends that I have received. But guess I will just hold on to this stock for now.

$120 Dividends From NOL
My portfolio of stocks has also risen in value by $10k. Still sitting on paper loss though for some of the stocks
My First Cheque from Penn West Energy Trust
The distribution was actually a grand total of $14.12. HOWEVER, after deducting for a 30% withholding tax, postage/handling charges of $5 and a 7% GST, I am left with a paltry $6.66.
There you have it, my dividends nearly halved by all these expenses. Oh well, guess I will just have to accumulate more of Penn West Energy Trust for all these expenses to be worthwhile.
$1071.98 in Passive Income for February 2009
Total amount was $1071.98 and comprised dividends from First REITs, Ascott REITs and SUNTEC REITs as well as the $200 Goods and Services Tax Credits that I received. Details as follows:
27 Feb 2009 GC S$200.00
27 Feb 2009 CDP CDP-FIRST RE S$266.90
27 Feb 2009 CDP CDP-FIRST RE S$30.60

27 Feb 2009 CDP CDP-SUNTECRE S$6.13
27 Feb 2009 CDP CDP-SUNTECRE S$2.47
In my blogging efforts, I managed a paltry US$8.29 from Google's Adsense. But I am not including that into my passive income yet since it is money I will not receive for sometime.
Busy now with filling my tax returns and trying to see what are the tax reliefs and tax rebates I can get.In these depressive and uncertain times, I have posted some funny videos here to cheer everyone up =)
Dividends for the Month of November and the meaning of investment
$326.40 from First REITs
$28.54 from Suntec REITs
Yup, that is all I am reporting for my dividends for the month of November. For December, I will probably be making some small investments into the stock market again. Both to increase my passive income as well as to buy stocks that are currently undervalued.
Just some thought about investments. Nothing educational really. Perhaps more philosophical.
What is investment really about? If someone (e.g. a layman without much knowledge about investment) was to ask me that question, I think my reply would go something along this line:
Investment is basically just delayed gratification. If I have $50,000 in cold hard cash today, I could buy a car straightaway. On the other hand, I can choose to delay this gratification, invest the money, and hope to earn some returns from it that would justify the length of delay in my gratification.
For example, I could take this $50,000 today and buy a normal 1.6L Mitsubishi Lancer (no sports rim, etc). So if somebody asks me to delay my gratification say for 1 year, I will have to ask myself.... "If I can only buy a car one year later, what do I expect?"
Some might expect the exact same car model perhaps with sports rim. Some might say... "Huh??? You want me delay one year?? Then I will have to rely on public transport for one whole year... no way!! If you want me to delay by one year, I want a BMW 3 series..
This then defines the "reward" that the person is looking for in turn for the delay in their gratification. The person who only wants the additional sports rim is looking for a smaller reward versus the one who wants the BMW 3 series.
As reward is tied to risk... I could then tell the first person to simply put the $50,000 into a bank deposit account that gives 1-2% interest per annum and assuming that there is no inflation for the year and prices remain the same... he could easily afford the exact same model of car he wants with sports rim. This is basically a low risk investment.
For the other person who is expecting a BMW 3 series, I would tell him to invest it in the stock market now.. only problem is that there is no way I can guarantee that in 1 year's time, his $50,000 will turn to $150,000. Instead of becoming $150,000 , it might become $10,000 or worse still...nothing.
On hearing this, he might have to fine tune the reward that he expects based on the risk level that he is able to accept. Basically, the higher the reward from the investment, the higher the risk.
