Everyday I try to draw some lessons from the books that I read or the things that I experience.
I have been reading Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell. In one of the chapters, it mentions that 10,000 hours is what it takes to make a person good at a particular field. That is roughly 10 years. The most gifted person or the most talented person still needs to practice 10,000 hours before they get really good.
Come to think of it, I have never really truly put in 10,000 hours into any particular field. Even during my university days, I don't think I managed to study 10,000 hours. And that perhaps explains why I am neither talented in any sport or in any musical instruments.
10,000 hours is all it takes. Of course, there needs to be some talent involve. But even with talent, you still need 10,000 hours.
Where should you devote 10,000 hours to?

How many retail investors are willing to put in a minimum of 10,000 hours hard work into their investing journey to make it a success?
ReplyDeleteMost of them are just willing to save more and invest money instead of spending some more quality time into acquiring investing knowledge and skills to survive in the market and become superior.
There are some who even believe they have learned enough skills and all financial and investment books are talking about the same thing with very little to gain from them.
Hi FF,
ReplyDeleteAre u considered financially free?? I hate the rat race. I wana get out the quickest time possible.
True CW8888. If one puts in 10,000 hrs or 10 years of hardwork into investing, I think he will come out much wiser from the experience.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous,
I am not financially free. I still have bills to pay each month and am barely saving enough for my retirement =)
I must be an expert at sleeping!
ReplyDeleteI have become very talented at it, and I can fall asleep pretty fast when I need to.
JW,
ReplyDeleteI have that talent too!
And I have practised more than 10,000 hrs for that too. hahaha
